Hệ thống Lightbus là một hệ thống mạng trường nối tiếp ( serial fielbus) nhanh chóng và an toàn. Khả năng miễn nhiễm với các ảnh hưởng điện từ, cách ly hoàn toàn điện của các mô-đun được kết nối với nhau và tốc độ truyền dẫn cao ngay cả trong khoảng cách lớn là những lợi thế quan trọng của công nghệ cáp quang. Kết hợp với cấu trúc điện tín nhỏ gọn và tối ưu, Lightbus đạt được tốc độ truyền rất cao 2,5 Mbaud. Lightbus có cấu trúc vòng; lên đến 254 trạm có thể được vận hành trong một vòng. Công nghệ cáp quang tiêu chuẩn tiết kiệm và dễ xử lý được sử dụng để truyền dữ liệu.
